Le Havre Port Information
Road
Le Havre sits at the end of two main motorways. The first coming from the direction of Rouen and the second over the "Pont de Normandie" bridge from Caen. The "Pont de Normandie" bridge is in two parts and on a clear day and excellent driving experience.
Rail
Le Havre offers excellent railway connections throughout France, with regular TGV departures to Paris.
Car Parking and Prices
Short and long-term parking is available at the port.
Short term parking is available outside the main terminal building, however there is no facility for long term parking. If you are travelling by foot to Portsmouth from outside Le Havre it is recomended that you either be dropped off by friends or use public transport. The terminal is a short walk from the centre of Le Havre and the public transport network.
General Thoughts
Le Havre is the largest port in the north of France, and the closest port to Paris. It is located in the River Seine, which leads to the city of Rouen the neighbour of Le Havre. Le Havre has much to offer the day-tripper or for the short break in France, with excellent road links to just about everywhere you could think of going in France.
Some of the activities in Le Havre it's self are a large pleasant beach and amusement areas, which are around 25 minutes walk from the LD Lines terminal in the city - not to be mistaken with the older terminal!. The LD Lines terminal is the "Citadel Terminal" and is the furthest from the entrance to the harbour.
Also Le Havre offers an unrivalled shopping experience of which we have sampled many a time, and no matter what the weather, it's possible to shop in comfort thanks to the new huge shopping centre in the 'centre-ville'. For those who are driving then about a 10 minute drive from the port is a large 'Commercial Centre' with various superstores including a very large "Auchan".
